Born to Sicilian parents Luigia and Guiseppe in North Africa on February 6th, 1910.
* Birth name Calogero Minacore.
* Shortly after his birth his mother moved them to New Orleans, Louisiana to be with his father.
* Calogero’s father had been forced to change his name to Marcello. So the rest of the family decided to change their names also. Guiseppe to Joseph, Luigia to Louise, and Calogero to Carlos.
* Joseph owned a small farm, which is how they made their living, selling fruits and vegetables at the French Market.
* Joseph and Louise eventually had eight more children. Peter, Rose, Mary, Pascal, Vincent, Joseph, Anthony and Sammy.

* At 14 Carlos dropped out of school and started to associate with street hoods that were involved with the mafia.
* At age 18 he moved out of his parents home to the French Quarter.

* 1929- Arrested for bank robbery. The charges were eventually dropped.
* 1930- Convicted of assault and robbery. Sentenced to nine years and served five.
* 1935- At the age of 25 he was a “made” man of the mafia. He was sponsored by Frank Todaro (a capo of the Matranga crime family).
* 1936-Married Jacqueline Todaros, daughter of Frank Todoras. In years following they eventually had two daughters.
* 1938- Arrested and charged with the sale of over 23 pounds of narcotics. He received a long prison sentence and a large fine but only served a few months. Following his release he soon got involved with Frank Costello (“Prime minister of the mob”).
* 1947- By late year he had taken control of Louisiana’s gambling network and had joined forces with Meyer Lansky(crime boss). By this time he had earned the role as leader of the Mafia in New Orleans.
* 1959- Appeared in court before the senate in an investigation into organized crime. Serving on the Committee was Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy. Marcello refused to answer any questions regarding the matter.
* 1961- The Attorney General(Robert F. Kennedy) had Marcello deported to Guatemala. But he was back in the United States not long after. On his return he reportedly threatened John F. Kennedy.
* 1962- Private investigator Edward Becker reported that Marcello was going to arrange to have President Kennedy killed in some way. Marcello told another informant that he would need to take out “insurance” for the assassination by “setting up some nut to take the fall for the job, just like they do in Sicily.”
