Rosacea
- Recurrent facial flushing and edema from a variety of different triggers: sun exposure, alcohol, certain medications, and alcohol; usually affects nose (rhinophyma), forehead, cheeks and chin; exact cause is unknown; papules, pustules, and telengiectasias may be present; often coexists with seborrheic dermatitis; 3X more common in females.

- Might involve the eye causing irritation and burning leading to conjunctival injection, blephariritis, episcleritis, chalazion, or hordoleum.
- Treatment: avoid irritants, reduce sun exposure, oral antibiotics, topical agents, isotretinoin, laser therapy
Rhinophyma – a form of acne rosacea more commonly seen in men (12:1, M:F), due to soft-tissue hypertrophy of the nose.
Herpes zoster (shingles)
- An acute, painful infection of a sensory nerve and its dermatome from activation of latent varicella-zoster virus. Pain usually begins before the skin eruption which initially consists of grouped vesicles on an erythematous base. New ones appear over a period of days.
